3 Healthy Habits for 2018!
3 Tips to a Healthier 2018
Heading into a brand new year is a great time to start some healthy habits. I find a lot of the time when we move into a new year we create the large goals that sometimes seem too big to tackle. I wanted to talk to you today about 3 simple tips that can help you create a healthier you and you can actually stick to!
Drink More Water
Most people simply do not drink enough water. Did you know that you should drink half your body weight in ounces a day? For many years I would drink water when it was convenient to me, but now I simply make it a priority. I have a 40 oz. stainless steel water bottle that never leaves my side. My recommendation to you is to get a glass or a stainless steel water bottle and fill it each morning. Having that water with you throughout the day will make it much easier for you to ensure that you are getting enough water.
Adding essential oils to my water also helps me drink more water. I enjoy giving it a little extra flavor. My favorite is Lemon essential oil. Not only do I believe it helps me drink more water because I enjoy the taste, but it is also great to cleansing my body and flushing out toxins. It helps keep my system running optimally.
Get Enough Sleep
Let’s be real, most people do not get enough sleep! When I ask people this question, ‘How much do you sleep a night?’ I usually hear something like 5, 6, 7 if I am lucky…… People are just not sleeping as much as they should. The quality of your sleep is directly related to your physical and mental health. Our sleep is when our body recovers from the previous day. The average adult should be getting 7-9 hours a sleep a night.
Trying to lose weight? Getting enough sleep is more important for weight loss then physical activity! Are you getting my point? You really need to stop making excuses and start sleeping.
Some tips to help you sleep better are to turn off electronics 30-60 minutes before bed. Create a relaxing environment, make sure your room is not cluttered and you have clean linen. I recommend diffusing something calming such as Lavender essential oil about 30 minutes before bed. Try applying a drop of Lavender to the bottom of your big toe prior to sleep to help calm your mind. Most importantly make sure you are setting aside enough time to sleep.
Decrease Your Caffeine Intake
Do you ever experience that 2 pm slump? You had lunch, your sitting at your desk and you simply feel tired? The easy solution is to grab for that cup of coffee, or even worse an energy drink. Caffeine has a lot of negative effects on our bodies. Some of the ones you might have experienced before are jitters, anxiety, trouble sleeping in the evening.
Here are some simple ideas to help you increase your energy more naturally. Get up from your desk and stretch out of walk around once an hour. Getting some blood flowing will help to naturally increase energy. Drinking plenty of water can help to keep your energy level high as well, not to mention you will be taking more frequent breaks to the rest room so it’s kind of a win, win! Lastly I recommend diffusing or breathing in some peppermint essential oil. This will naturally increase the blood flow to the brain and give you natural energy while even helping with focus.
