Bye, Bye Bugs!

As we move further into the spring the bugs are out and first we want to prevent them from biting us, but we also need to know what to do when we do get bit right?  Well, today I am going to break down some of my favorite essential oils to repel bugs and ticks for adults, kids, and even animals as well as what we can do after we get bit! Many of the store-bought bug sprays are filled with chemicals that are horrible for us and our families.  DEET for example, although approved by the EPA, is shown to interact and affect our nervous system negatively.  Many would argue that the side effects are worth it to fend off diseases carried by bugs such as Lyme disease and I would have to agree.  But what I have learned is that not only are there alternatives to these chemical bug sprays, even the CDC lists Eucalyptus essential oil as one of the top 5 ingredients to look for in a bug spray.  Bottom line is essential oils work and they are non-toxic so that is what I use.

When it comes to outdoor protection, no defense is better than Mother Nature’s offerings. Among these are essential oils which provide a vapor barrier for plants, protecting them from potential threats in their environment. TerraShield Outdoor Blend contains powerful essential oils and other plant oils known to provide outdoor protection in a natural, safe way.

This newly updated formula contains a select blend of essential oils including Ylang Ylang, Cedarwood, Catnip, Lemon Eucalyptus, Litsea, Arborvitae, Nootka, and Vanilla Bean Absolute—all of which possess specific chemical compounds known to protect against environmental annoyances.

TerraShield Outdoor Blend is a powerful yet safe formula that can be used by every member of the family, outdoors and throughout the home.

It comes in the pure oil form or in the convenient spray bottle.  To use it,

  • Apply TerraShield to the legs, arms, and neck before going outdoors or diffuse on your patio.
  • Take TerraShield on camping trips or to outdoor events.
  • Spray TerraShield around your door, window seals, and tent.

A tick repellant is a must and let us be honest it must work and it must work well! This Combo packs a powerful punch and works incredibly at fending off ticks.  We want to also do the important things like dressing well if you are going to be walking through grass or the woods tucking your pants into your socks works well, ensure that after being outdoors your do a full-body tick check, but applying this combo before and throughout your outing.

No matter how careful we are every once in a while we will get bit by a bug, so it's best to be prepared for when that happens.  I love using Lavender because it acts as a natural anti-histamine.  Then I add melaleuca for its cleansing and cooling properties.  Here is what I do!

  • 10 mL roller bottle
  • 10 drops Lavender
  • 10 drops Melaleuca
  • Fill with Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • Apply as needed

Pretty simple right?  So let's break it down.  To be prepared for the Spring and Summer bugs you need to check out oil stash and make sure that you have

  • Terrashield
  • Eucalyptus
  • Lemongrass
  • Lavender
  • Melaleuca

Not bad right???
