How are you Sleeping? Sweet Dreams with Essential Oils

Is this you, sleeping peacefully with a smile on your face? I doubt it! Most likely this is more the story, do you have trouble falling asleep?  Or maybe just trouble staying asleep?  Well today I am going to discuss some great options to try to sleep.  There are a lot of essential oils out there and it's important to find the one or combo that works for you :)

So lets start with falling asleep.  If you have trouble falling asleep at night about 30 minutes before you want to go to bed start to shut down, turn off the TV, computer and phone.  This is the hardest part for me but it's so important to getting a restful night sleep.  The next step is taking the essential oil of your choice and using it.  You want to do this about 30 minutes before bed to give it time to work :)  So what oil do you use?  There are so many!!!!  Start simple, try one oil at a time and see what works for you.  An easy way to narrow this down is do you prefer woodsy smelling essential oils?  Then give Cedarwood, Sandalwood or Vetiver a try.  All of these are known for their calming and grounding effects.  Maybe woodsy isn't your thing and your into the floral smell?  Well Lavender is a great essential oil to help support restful sleep!  There are also some blends I absolutely LOVE!  The calming blend works wonders when I can't calm my mind. The grounding blend is what I refer to as my 'full moon'  essential oil, When all that crazy energy is in the air from the full moon a little balance helps me rest like a charm :)

So you found your essential oil or you have one your going to try how do you use it?  Looking at the bottle sure won't do the trick!!!  Well here are some ideas for you.

  • Take a drop and rub it into the bottom of your feet (I like to do this again if I wake up in the middle of the night)
  • Take a drop and rub it into the back of your neck
  • Apply a drop to your chest so you can smell it as well as get the topical benefits
  • Make a room spray, mix a few drops of essential oil in a spray bottle with distilled water and spray the room before bed
  • Diffuse in your room while you sleep (my number 1 recommendation if you have trouble staying asleep)

This is a blend I just made that I love!   If you want to get creative with any of the essential oils or the specific ones in this blend you can make a roller bottle filled with Fractionated coconut oil for easy application at night!
