Tips Tuesday: Support Your Adrenal Glands

The adrenal glands are absolutely vital to your wellbeing. You have two of them, which are located above your kidneys.  They play an important role in producing many hormones that we need.  They are particularly important during times of stress.

The adrenals produce,

  • DHEA and other sex hormones
  • corticosteroids
  • mineralocorticoids
  • epinephrine (adrenaline), norepinephrine, and dopamine

When under stress, our brains send a signal to the adrenal glands.  They then react instantly by releasing hormones. In turn, this slows down our digestion, increase our awareness and divert blood flow to important areas such as our brain and muscles.

So you can see how if your adrenals are not functioning properly due to stress or other things you can have some of the below issues,

  • Mild depression or anxiety
  • Multiple food and or inhalant allergies
  • Lethargy and lack of energy
  • Increased effort to perform daily tasks
  • Decreased ability to handle stress
  • Dry and thin skin
  • Low blood sugar
  • Low body temperature
  • Palpitation
