Why September is the Time to Refocus on Your Goals!
September has always been a very powerful month for me! It always feels like there is a shift in energy as we move into the last portion of the year. The seasons begin to change as do our schedules. Fall trickles in, the stores fill up with halloween and holiday decorations. I also find this is the time when we either make a decision to keep pushing toward our goals for the year or we give up!
The old me was part of the group that said, oh well, the year is almost over, there is always next year. Not anymore!!! Now I say to myself, wow! I still have four amazing months left to reach my goals. How lucky am I!
So how can you take these next four months and make the most of them? Keep reading to learn more about the three things I personally do to maximize the last portion of the year.
First Key: Get Clear on Where You Are Going!
I call this your vision. If you do not have a vision of where you are going and what you want to accomplish, how can you get there? There are many ways to do this, but I find these questions really helpful.
What are 5-10 things that you truly enjoy doing in life. Ask yourself what would your life feel incomplete without?
Who in your life brings you the most joy? Maybe there is a role in your life that is not yet filled for instance romantic partner or child? Write that down.
What makes you feel fulfilled at the end of the day? Is there works that you do or wish that you do that would make you feel more fulfilled?
At the end of your life what would you like to be remembered for? What have you accomplished? What legacy will you leave?
If you could have the absolute perfect day (maybe that includes work, maybe it doesn't) what would that day look like from start to finish?
What are your goals? Hang tight, my next tip is going to be all about this!
I find it really helpful to grab my essential oils before I do this exercise each time. Some of my favorites for creating my vision are doTERRA Motivate, doTERRA Wild Orange and/or doTERRA Green Mandarin. Motivate does exactly what it says, it motivates you! Wild Orange helps you to tap into your inner child and bring spontaneity, fun, joy, and playfulness into our lives. Green Mandarin helps us see our potential. Simply pop some in a diffuser or put a drop in your hands, breathe it in for a few deep breaths and then get to work on the questions above!
Second Key: Get Clear on What You Want to Accomplish!
Once we know where we are going we need to figure out how to get there!!! So that means it is time to set some goals. I recommend here in September setting goals that take you through the end of the calendar year. Smaller more manageable chunks, set yourself up for success. So how do we write goals that actually help us get to where we want to be?
I recommend writing goals in these five areas. Finances, Business/Work, Spirituality, Relationships, Physical/Health. You want your goals to be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant to your vision and timely. This is commonly refered to as writing SMART goals. To take this one step further I recommend writing your goals in what I call the BEST, GREAT, GOOD model.
When we write a goal, for instance I want to lose 10 pounds, and we only lose eight, we are disappointed. However I would argue that losing eight pounds is amazing! So we write goals in the best, great, good model. Best = 10 pounds, Great = 8 pounds, Good = 5 pounds. You see how this works? It sets us up for success not an expectation of perfection.
For goal setting two of my favorite oils are doTERRA Bergamot and doTERRA Turmeric. Bergamot helps us accept ourselves and can relieve feelings of self judgment which is important when we are being vulnerable and setting goals. Turmeric helps to repair our bodies physically, mentally, and emotionally. It is great for when you feel paralyzed by life. You can diffuse these or breathe them in (just a fair warning Turmeric doesn't smell great lol), or you can actually take them internally to help you with this. *I only recommend using doTERRA essential oils internally.
Third Key: Get Support!
Now is time to rally the troops and get support. It is important that you have a support system when trying to reach goals. Some of you may be really blessed to have this in your home and others may not. Even if you have a great support system in your home, I find it really helpful to be surrounded by a group of people who are also working to accomplish similar goals. This has been a game changer for me!
Finding this group of people can be a complete life changer, however it can be hard to find! maybe you have a group of friends that you want to work with and commit to help each other reach your goals, I LOVE that! Go chat with them right away.

Oh and of course I have a couple essential oils to help you with this action step of reaching your goals. doTERRA Blue Tansy and Ginger! Blue tansy is the oil of inspired action, I personally put it on the bottom of my big toe every single morning. It works incredible. Ginger is and oil I grab when I need to get moving. It is hard to stay still with this oil. It helps us see and pursue our passions in life. I recommend using these topically on the bottom of you feet, and with ginger you may want to dilute it as it can be a spicy oil.
