Got Mold?

Mold is not something to mess around with, although it is beautiful at times out in nature, exposure to moldy environments may cause a variety of health concerns. The most common way it presents itself is through respiratory discomfort. This can be in the nasal cavities or in the lungs.

In 2004 the Institute of Medicine (IOM) found there was sufficient evidence to link indoor exposure to mold with upper respiratory tract symptoms, cough, and wheeze in otherwise healthy people.

Mold will grow in places with a lot of moisture, such as around leaks in roofs, windows, or pipes, or where there has been flooding. Mold grows well on paper products, cardboard, ceiling tiles, and wood products. Mold can also grow in dust, paints, wallpaper, insulation, drywall, carpet, fabric, and upholstery.

So what do we do if we believe or know we have mold? Mold is not something to mess around with so I always recommend consulting an expert, but what are our other options? There are a few essential oils that are great for helping to stop mold growth and there are other essential oils that are great for cleaning our bodies if we have been exposed.

Some of the more powerful essential oils when it comes to treating mold are doTERRA Melaleuca, Clove, Lemon, OnGuard and Purify. Here is an easy to make mold spray,

Spray Bottle (These are the ones I prefer)

  • 1 cup white vinegar

  • 5 drops doTERRA Melaleuca essential oil

  • 5 drops OnGuard or Purify

  • *Optional: Add 1 cup distilled water

1. Combine all ingredients in the spray bottle.

2. Shake to combine before each use.

3. Clean the affected area before spraying.

2. Spray the affected area with your mold spray then wipe it down with a cloth or paper towels.

3. Give the whole area another spray then allow it to dry completely. Turn on fans or point fans at the wet area to help it dry more quickly.

So what do we do if we have been exposed to mold??? It is important to cleanse our bodies and eliminate as much of that mold as we can!

I also recommend taking detox baths 1-2 times per week. You will need 1/2 cup each of Epsom Salt and Baking Soda. I recommend adding 2-3 drops of doTERRA Zendocrine to the bath. Try and soak for 20-40 minutes in a warm bath. Sweat is good, so hang in there and drink lots of water.

There are some other simple things you can do. Drink lots of water with Lemon essential oil in there daily. I add 2-3 drops to my 40 ounce water bottle about 3 times a day. Take the Zendocrine softgels and detoxification complex for 10 days as directed on the bottle and repeat this monthly until you feel symptoms resolve.

Bottom line is mold is scary, and make sure you don’t ignore it!
